Why do we place a negative cable to the ground instead of the negative ...
Hooking up the negative jumper cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery makes more sense instead of the ground because the clamps would be directly on the dead battery terminal. Wouldn''t that be a more direct return path versus grounding it to the vehicle chassis? Edit #1. This is not a duplicate of another question.
Using a car with an inaccessible negative battery terminal to jump ...
Any ground (earth) location will work. On my ''06 Silverado, there are places to hook the jumpers which are away from the battery. You don''t even hook the jumpers to the battery no matter which way you''re going (whether jumping or being jumped). As long as you have a good ground location, you''re golden.

Should negative trickle charger clips be attached to the battery ...
Secondly, you do NOT hook a battery charger up to charge a battery by applying an alternate ground source, i.e. an engine block. The ground connection for a battery charger, used at a 2-4 amp rate (trickle charging) should ALWAYS be applied direct to the ground side post of the battery. Hence why, you remove the battery from the vehicle.
Difference between chassis ground and Battery negative?
The positive bus contains 10 fuse ports and is connected to the positive post of the battery via a 30 amp relay that is switched on when the key is turned. The negative bus is connected directly to the negative post of the battery. Prior to this, most of my connections were grounded to the chassis, not the negative post of the battery.
Damage of cells and battery packs due to ground impact
The paper presented a top-down approach to the analysis of the damage to an integrated battery pack into the vehicle body structure. To narrow down the scope of the paper, a "Floor" architecture of the battery pack composed on 18650 cylindrical cells was assumed. Other design concepts could also be treated using similar methods.

ECU Grounding
This is where things can start to get confusing for some people, because in our ECU wiring harness we also have "Ground" wires. We have battery ground wires and also separate signal ground wires. It''s all too easy to look at these wires and say: "OK, ground is ground, its just a loop back to the battery" but it''s not that simple.
What happens when your condenser and coils are not grounded
The ground path for the primary side is the points. If you think about it, there are 3 wires on the coil. 12V supply, Ground through the points and condenser, and the Spark Plug wire. The Secondary side sees ground through the condenser when the points open and the hard ground" disappears. The condenser is in the primary (battery voltage) circuit.
